Monthly Payment
The fee for lessons is prorated into equal monthly payments. Please contact Kathy Morgan for current rates. A student can begin at any point and will participate in the following, within a calendar year:
- Thirty-two (32) 30-minute private lessons (September-June)
- Four (4) 60-minute private lessons in the summer planned around your summer schedule - this replaces eight (8) weekly 30-minute lessons in the summer
- Five (5) master class lessons (60-min.) - All students come together for group instruction and/or performances.
Payment Due Date
Payment is due at the first lesson of each month. There is a late fee of $10.00 for each week payment is past due. Please include the late fee with your late payment.
Missed Lessons
If a student is ill or needs to miss a lesson for any reason, the student is invited to attend a group make-up lesson held once each month. At these lessons, the focus will be on vocal technique which is appropriate for all singers. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed, and will not be rescheduled if the student cannot attend a group lesson. There are no refunds for missed lessons.
Private make-up lessons are only offered when the teacher cancels a lesson. Every attempt will be made to reschedule any lesson canceled by the teacher, or credit will be give to the student’s account.
Kathy Morgan's time has been set aside time for her student's lessons, and payment is required for all scheduled lessons.
Recital Fee
A minimal recital fee will be charged to cover recital costs for renting a recital hall, paying for an accompanist and refreshments.
Practice
The voice is an instrument that can be improved through regular application of healthy vocal technique and awareness. The voice is also an instrument of complex muscles which require regular exercise. Serious students and performers are constantly challenged with the work required to improve and maintain their voice but the end result is singing that is free, enjoyable, and totally unique.
Success as a singer will be determined by the effort a student puts into practicing. Students will learn and review skills, at each lesson, which should be applied when practicing.
For the best progress, students should warm-up and practice five (5) days per week. This leaves one day for a voice lesson and one day to rest the voice. Students should set a goal for each practice period to measure their progress.
All songs should be memorized for performances.
Closings
This studio will follow the Fairfax County Public School calendar for all scheduled holidays and closings unless otherwise noted (see calendar page). No lessons will be held on early release days.
On snow days this studio will be open if roads are passable and weather permitting. Please come if you are comfortable driving. Otherwise, please notify Kathy that you will not be coming, and she will schedule a make-up lesson for you. This may be a group lesson. Students will not have a make-up lesson if the roads are passable and students opt not to attend their lesson.
Extra Lessons
On occasion students ask to schedule an extra lesson to prepare for an upcoming audition. You are welcome to call and check for openings or cancellations. Every effort will be made to help you.
Supply List
Students should bring the following to each lesson:
- A bag to carry music and practice CDs.
- A pencil for marking music and taking notes.
- A water bottle
- Singing books. These will be assigned throughout the year and can be purchased at Music and Arts or Melodee Music or purchased online (see Links & Resources). Please purchase the accompaniment CDs with your books.
Termination
Kathy Morgan understands that circumstances change, and the time comes for each student to move on. A courtesy termination notice of one month is requested from each student to ensure that the student receives all of the scheduled lessons they have paid for.
Without this notice, the student will forfeit any outstanding lessons that may have been paid for with the prorated fee. If the prorated fee did not cover all of the lessons the student has attended, Kathy Morgan will contact the student/parent with the balance, and the final payment will be due at the last lesson or within a week of the termination notice.
